While I was in Rome, Marzia and I worked on the FCCM website and CCcomdev platform questions that emerged from our conversations in Wageningen. Of particular question for us was how to use the FCCM groups to best effect, and what are the FCCM groups for? We came up with the following. Please do let us know if there are any questions/concerns/discussion about it. FCCM Website and CCComDev The relationship between the CCComDev and FCCM websites: · CCComDev hosts the FCCM website. · CCComDev has a mandate for capacity building and knowledge sharing, while the focus of the FCCM is more on policy advocacy. · This focus will be clarified further through changing some text on each site How do we use CCComDev and the FCCM pages? The focus of the CCComDev news feed is general posts related to rural communication: announcements on events & opportunities (e.g. conferences, training workshops, fellowships, calls for papers/proposals) or articles about rural comdev initiatives, projects, good practices (in the section “comdev stories”). So far, these have been created and maintained by Los Banos. Any contributions to the blog postings are certainly welcome, and would be content that Los Banos could add to the general CCComDev news. For instance, this would be a good space for student contributions and for all universities to share activities that are not under the FCCM umbrella. Cleofe S. Torres posted a new announcement Comdev global research initiative formed Under the leadership of the University of Queensland (UQ), the Communication for Rural Development and Social Change – Global Research Initiative (GRI) was recently formed to follow up and advance the work in mainstreaming Comdev in rural development earlier initiated by FAO. Aside from UQ, the group is composed of members from FAO, Wageningen University, University of Guelph, University of Reading, and University of the Philippines Los Baños. For 2015, GRI has lined up a number of activities that would bring Comdev in the agenda of development- and communication–related international conferences, meetings and events among others. These include paper presentation in the forthcoming 22 nd European Seminar on Extension and Education (ESEE), April 28-May 1, 2015 in Wageningen, The Netherlands and a panel presentation at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference, July 12-16, 2015, in Montreal, Canada. In terms of research and capacity building, GRI has also identified possible areas of work on the following: map e-learning modules and higher education courses on ComDev; map community for development research and methodologies; field student assistants for such activities and for internships in FAO projects; consider a global PhD course (similar to WASS structure) to be held in Rome in close connection with FAO and the University of Perugia; conduct inventory of shared sources (text books, learning environments); use and actively...
