Calling all foodies: highlight your traditional dish from your region

GatronomyDayUNFAO launched the first Sustainable Gastronomy Day last 18 June with a call for the foodies wordwide to submit their photo story featuring their traditional dishes with the hashtag, #MySustainableMeal and connect with @UNFAO.

Sustainable Gastronomy Day aims to address the questions:

  1. What on earth is sustainable gastronomy?
  2. Why is it important enough to have a "day" dedicated to it?
  3. Why should I care?

Supporting locally grown foods and eating what is in season can help shift the buying patterns of local businesses, like restaurants and hotels, and support the area's fishers and farmers. Inclusion of traditional crops in one's dier such as quinoa or cactus pear can supply the body's needed vitamins and minerals.

What can we do?

  1. Eat local and support your farmers.
  2. Be adventurous, try traditional, local foods in your travels.
  3. Keep traditions alive.
  4. Avoid food waste.

Chosen photos will be reposted by UNFAO.
