Abstracts for oral presentations, poster presentations, pre-formed panel presentations, TED Talk-style “Comm Talks” and concept notes for skills-building workshops are now being accepted for the Shifting Norms, Changing Behavior, Amplifying Voices: What Works? 2018 International Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Summit featuring Entertainment-Education.
The Summit will be held April 16 to 20, 2018, in Nusa Dua, Indonesia. With a deep dive into the power of Entertainment–Education (EE), the Summit provides a critical space to strengthen advocacy for SBCC investments; expand connections between SBCC organizations, practitioners and scholars; share and learn new skills, evidence and methodologies; and contribute to setting the global SBCC agenda.
The 2018 Summit offers participants a number of ways to disseminate recent research, tools and programming: through technical oral or poster presentations, participating in a panel presentation, giving a Comm Talk, showing a multi-media video showcase, and/or facilitating a skills-building workshop.
The Summit will be organized around three overarching themes: 1) What Works, 2) Making Sense of the Field Now, and 3) Agenda and Voice Setting. Abstracts and concept notes for the Summit sessions will be submitted and organized by theme.
The deadline for abstract and concept note submission is Monday, November 27, 2017. All submissions must be in English, Spanish or French and will be acknowledged on receipt. Tsunamis are frequent in Indonesia and more than 35% of them are deadly. The December 26, 2004 tsunami claimed 178,000 lives in the island of Sumatra. In hindsight, the weak tsunami resilience of the people contributed to the terrible catastrophe. Many people were unaware, unprepared, and lacked knowledge about tsunamis. The mass media reported on the December 26 tragic consequences but did not provide substantial information about tsunamis (Morin et al., 2008).
